Model Hotspot: Restaurant Roest, Amsterdam

August 27, 2013 by Marius Hordijk

Roest is an unique place located on the Oostenburgeneiland, which is still in Amsterdam but not in the centre of the city. Being there feels like being in an oasis, the atmosphere is very warm and artistic because the place is not only a cafe but also a creative spot for film, theatre, art and music.

The place is called Roest (which means rust in English) due to the history of the building. The building used to be an old gas plant. The owners didn`t want to change much to the building so they could maintain the old atmosphere.

Roest is a selfservice concept, which means that you have to buy your beverages inside. Even though you can not officially have dinner there, regularly people throw barbecues at the beach. If you are lucky the staff starts a big campfire and let the dj play some nice tunes till 3 in the morning while you are having your drink. On the website you can find a programme of all the activities that take place in the cafe.
