Gorgeous Dutch model and freelance PR manager Lauren Visser on her career, her passions and her hummus and Tabasco cravings in this online exclusive…
Agencies: IMG worldwide, Wilhelmina London, Uno Barcelona
Current location: Amsterdam
How did you get discovered?
On the streets of Amsterdam. At first when I was 11, but then I was a little bit too young…I decided to become a model the second time I got scouted, when I was 14.
How did you feel during your first photoshoot?
At first I was a little bit scared, because it was with a few other models who already had a lot of experience, but as the shoot went on, and I got comfortable with the people around me, all I felt was joy and excitement!
Who’s your favorite photographer you’ve done a shoot with and why?
I worked with a lot of photographers around the world, it’s hard to say wich is my favorite. But if I absolutely have to pick one, it would be Brydie Mack. A very young and very talented photographer from Australia. I had one of the best days shooting with her. I felt so incredibly free, and we had a strong team of only girls. And, I have to say, the gorgeous beach we worked on surely brought it’s magic as well…
You also work for Speak Easy Agency. Could you tell us a bit more about what Speak Easy Agency is all about?
Speak Easy is a marketing and communication agency. Basically we arrange brand visibility on the right platforms. We help several brands and companies to represent the right message that they want to send out to everyone.
How exactly did you get into PR and what work experiences have you gathered so far?
I guess I got lucky! My sister, also a model, has been working as a PR manager for a few years now, and she asked me if it might me something I aspired, too. Since I’ve been based in Amsterdam since last year, I had a lot of spare time on my hands. So a job in PR didn’t sound so bad at all. A good friend of my sister, Tedje Fliers (founder of Speak Easy Agency), told me she could use a hand or two in her new business. And so I started from there. I just started working here since a few months, and before that I only worked as a model. So I’m still building on my work experiences, but hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?
Besides modeling and PR, what are your other passions?
Film! Definitely. Ever since I was a little girl, my dad showed me almost every movie there was (even though I was way too young haha). I get great satisfaction out of movies, it’s kind of an escape from the real world. I don’t really have a preference of genre, but I do have a weak spot for movies from the 50’s and 60’s. I remember the first time I saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I was 9 years old when my mum showed it to me. Since that day I’ve seen that movie about a hundred times, and still when I watch it I get chills down my spine. So classy.
What’s your secret to staying in shape?
If I absolutely have to be honest, not much…When I was younger I just did gymnastics and play field hockey for several years, but that all kind of ended when I got out of high school. I tried working out with a personal trainer, but that was in a period when I was traveling a lot, and so it kind of stopped. I do pay a lot of attention to what I eat. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t starve myself, in the contrary. But some essentials aren’t that essential. Like bread, potatoes, rice…
What is your favorite healthy snack?
Carrots or cucumber with humus! I love humus. Oh and I have another obsession, Tabasco… I always carry miniature bottles of it in my bag… Everyone calls me crazy but if I always carry a humongous bag with me, I might as well fill it with things I love!
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
I think that a lot of people underestimate what being a model really is. In both a negative and positive way. I think a lot of young models can say that, since they’ve been in this line of work, they have a different view of themselves and others around them. Being a model made me much stronger than I ever could have been, and at the same time makes me feel so small sometimes. I think MODELLIST-ID creates a clearer view of what modeling really contents, and a good way for models to help each other in this amazingly crazy world.
Do you have any model friend you would like to see presented on Modellist-ID?All my model friends are already a member 😉

Last but not least, what’s next for you?
Well 2016 has already been a year full of changes for me. I have a part time office job now, and I left my mother agency. So I’m focusing on my new job, and also looking for a new agency. I’ll see what happens from there 😉
