Tell us about your career as model. How did you get started?
At the age of 16 I got scouted on social media and received a message if I could come to the agency one day and when I came by, they took my measurements and some polas. I got signed the same day. I didn’t expect to get a contract right away so my excitment was beyond words. I was scouted before by other agencies but never thought it was something for me to do, but when I saw how big of an agency Dominique Models was I thought I could give it a shot. My firt shoot was with the very talented Jeffrey Calant, I had never done a shoot so I didn’t know what to expect but it was so much fun and something definetly worth doing more often.
What’s going through your mind when you’re modeling in front of the camera?
At first I didn’t really know what to do but mostly you get a lot of tips from the photographer, after a while you start to get to know your right angles and you know what poses suit you better and which ones don’t. You do have to think about a lot of stuff when you’re in front of the camera, when you are doing one pose you already have to think about your next one so the photographer doesn’t have 100 pictures of you in all the same poses. You need to think about your eyes, shoulders, arms, hands and legs (if they are seen in the picture) and in my case I have to think about my mouth a lot because of my braces.
What’s your favorite/least favorite thing about being a model?
My favorite thing is that I get a lot of experience and I get to know a lot of amazing people such as photographers and other models. It’s a thing that not every girl gets to do, so I am still amazed and blessed to be in this industry. My least favorite thing is the ‘traveling’ to the shoot itself. I was on the train for 6 hours (in total) to be on an hour shoot. Also when you have a day you don’t feel good about yourself and you have a shoot, you need to ‘shine’ even when you don’t feel like it.
Are there any other models in the industry that you look up to?
I’m a huge fan of Cara Delevingne (who isn’t) the fame didn’t change her as a person and that’s what I really admire, she stayed her crazy little self!
How would you define your personal style?
My style is lots of things I guess, at days I’m more like casual and comfy clothed but then I have other days when I want to dress up big time just to do some groceries. I do prefer more the tough biker girl kind of style the all black and leather jackets with studds kind of thing. But also I have some flower power dresses in my closet so yeah…
And what are some of the heroes of your wardrobe?
I don’t really pay much atention to designers but if I have to pick one it will be Alexander Wang!
Could you give us your best beauty and exercise tip(s)?
For the girls who wear make-up I would say that after you take it off (what you should do every night) you have to scrub your face with just water, also do this in the morning because it gets forgotten so often that water really is one of the best things for a clear skin. (drinking water is too) For exercising I could say that when you start you got to build things up, so don’t start running for an hour and doing 100 squats from the first day, take one step at the time. Also when you start working out to lose weight and you stick to your fitness routine, you will see that you first will gain muscles (so also weight) after that you will lose bodyfat, so don’t panic when you gain a couple of pounds after working out so much!
What is the one beauty product you can’t live without?
I’m a little in love with face masks, the anti stress mask ‘dead sea minerals’ from Freeman is my favorite! I also love the BB creme from Garnier.
What is your favorite city and where do you like to hang out there?
I have to say that my favorite city of all times is Antwerp, I go to school there and live 20-30 minutes out of the city. There is always something to do and it is so pretty! It is just so alive and great to be there, you can find the cutest restaurants and the best parties.
What do you believe is the key to success for a model? What qualities does one need to succeed?
I’m trying to figure out what the key to success is, mostly it is based on your appearance and looks but we don’t really get a say in that. You do need to have a strong character I think, so when you get bad comments or critical opinions you use that to feel better. I think every model compares her/hisself with other models and that’s okay but you can’t let that get the best of you. Being comfortable with youreself is really important!
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
It can connect and help eachother and give a better perspective of the industry to beginning models . It’s also just interesting as a model to see how other models started their journey. The tips are definitely helpfull for everyone!
What are your working on right now and what are your future aspirations?
Now summer vacation has started, I can plan a lot of shoots because that seemes to be a little problem during school. 🙂
