Although she is very passionate about her study Econometrics & Operational Research, she wouldn’t mind making a career switch and work as a fulltime model. And with her new look nobody is stopping her anymore! Get to know Dutch fashion model Anouk Montfoort…
Profession: Student Econometrics & Operational Research, waitress and model
Agencies: Elvis Models
Milestones: Signed with Elvis
Current location: home in the Netherlands
How did you become a model?
First, I was scouted by an agency from Milan via Instagram. A couple of months later, I was shopping at a vintage market of Glamour magazine, when Zekja Gecmen (scout from Elvis) approached me. It was an unexpected, but great surprise! With Elvis it felt immediately right!
In your own eyes, what was the moment that your career really took off?
I hope I can answer this one in a few months. At the moment I am in “development”. So far I have done really nice test shoots and a few castings. Since a few weeks I got a fresh new haircut. I cut 30 cm of my hair and, thinking about kids with leukemia, I donated it for wigs.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots that you’ve done?
My most interesting shoot was with Florian Joahn (photographer), Celine Bernaerts (make-up artist) and Jean Paul Paula (styling).
First, it was all about the facial expression. Second, the focus was on the position of the hands. Afterwards, Florian Joahn combined hands and face in one picture. It was surprisingly beautiful for “an edgy bastard” like me! Really cool!
Who’s your favorite photographer you’ve done a shoot with and why?
My first shoot was with Jolijn Snijders. I really liked her approach. She was very relaxed and I felt immediately comfortable in front of the camera.
But talking about photographers … I really admire Migjen Rama. He always captures the natural beauty of every model in front of his lens. It would be amazing to work with him one day.
Did you ever have a bad/crazy experience during your modeling career?
No, up till now I only met really nice and enthusiastic people.
But thinking about it … I had a funny “celebrity experience”. At a casting I had to make Polaroids in front of a bunch of hotel guests. I noticed them pointing and thinking: “who’s that…do we know her?”. They took pictures and played paparazzi. A moment of fame. In all honesty, I must say it felt good.
Are you working fulltime as a model or do you also study/work next to it?
Yes, I’m studying Econometrics & Operational Research at the University of Amsterdam. It’s a study where you learn to use mathematical techniques to predict economic and commercial cases. I realize this is going to sound very nerdy, but I really like maths!
I am passionate about my study, but I wouldn’t mind making a career switch and work as a fulltime model for a few years (or indefinitely).
Please tell us a bit more about your modeling agency/agencies and what you like most about them.
Elvis Models is a great agency with a direct approach. Jord and Ilona (my beloved agents) give each model personal attention and provide an individual plan for each model.
What characterizes you and the choices you make in life?
What characterizes me: optimist, hard worker, ambitious, resilient and always happy.
I like to get out of my comfort zone and have new experiences. When I do something, I really want to reach the top.
What is the latest spontaneous thing you did?
To surprise my brother, I organized a city trip for him. It is just after the Christmas holidays and New Years celebrations. Of course, during the trip he has to cope with me …;)
What’s your favorite place to hangout in (current location)?
As I said before, I study in Amsterdam. I really love to hangout their with friends. I really love the busy city life … and one day I would love to live in a real big city. I prefer New York.
What do you do to stay in shape?
Nothing special …
When my friends from high school will read this question, I think they will burst into laughter. I used to be the girl that hated basketball and volleyball at school. When I said I got a membership for a gym, they were extremely surprised.
Although I’m not a diehard, I enjoyed field hockey for quite some years. Now I like to do yoga and pilates to maintain my muscles. I also try to eat healthy. For me that is not that difficult, because I like fruits and vegetables. And of course, Ben & Jerry’s (hahaha) …
What is your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is to be patient about the future. I’m passionate about what I do and always dreaming about new adventures.
Give us 5 fun facts people might not know about you yet.
- My great great great great great grandparents were French and British.
- I always drink my tea with a straw.
- I really like film music. For example, Pregnant of John Powell (Ice Age).
- When I was a baby I had black hair.
- I work in a pancake restaurant, but actually I don’t like pancakes. (I hope my boss won’t read it!)
