Helmut Newton was born October 31, 1920 in Berlin. On January 23 2004, the world-famous fashion photographer died at the age of 83 in a tragic accident. At the age of 18, with the rise of Nazism, Newton fled Germany and went to Singapore. He worked several years as a press photographer and then moved to Australia where he opened a photo studio in Melbourne. Vogue gave him a contract and that was his breakthrough. In the early sixties he moved to Paris, where he worked for Vogue the next 23 years. Helmut Newton remains avant garde and is an absolute inspiration to virtually everyone working in the fashion scene.
