We all love things that are just a little different and surprising. Meet the boys from BAK; Benny Blisto, Alessandro da Fies and Piet Sanders. All in their twenties, but not afraid to take a chance. Together they invented the concept of BAK; a pop-up restaurant, combined with a caterer and event creator. ‘Organizing cosy dinner evenings at forgotten places and serve non-complicated and extraordinary food’, that would be their main goal.
Benny has been cooking for many restaurants for years, Alessandro is an experienced catering guy with fresh ideas and Piet is in charge of the marketing.
The environment they create together is best to describe as super friendly and relaxed. The boys only work with friends or with friends from friends, so they make sure the guests don’t lack of anything and get treated very well.
Guests have been welcomed at the highest floor of the Veem theatre, the attic of on old warehouse, with amazing views. Next came up existent restaurant Rijssel, while still serving lunch in Veem. Then they moved the crew including the kitchen to the 'Kunstkapel', which looked like a white balloon with a large round cleft of light in the middle. At the moment they are installing in the 'De Zonnehuis', in the north of Amsterdam, where formerly boxing events were held.
The three realized eating out can be rather expensive, especially when you would like to eat good pure food, be served well and are picky about the location. That’s why the best part of the story might be the price revelation; only 25 euros for three courses.
A miniature vegetables garden on your plate or a huge cup of chocolate, they made by using balloons, with sweets en fruits, Benny and the boys are not afraid to put some humor into their dishes. After dinner you can hangout at their cocktail bar or have cocktails shaken for you at the tableside. Dancing is allowed and appreciated; the DJ will spin some old tunes that definitely get you in the mood. They didn’t forget about disco lightening of course.
