My Hotspots in Barcelona

January 12, 2017 by Demi Jonk

In the past two months I had the pleasure to live in one of the most beautiful cities, Barcelona. As we speak I’m all the way up in the air, flying back home for Christmas. So I thought this is the perfect moment to share my favourite places with you guys.

To get a better perspective of my Barcelona experience you can watch my Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLKKywKYPbGozhW7DFAMLUg

BRUNCH AND CAKE: This is definitely the best hotspot for a lunch, brunch or breakfast. There are several ‘brunch and cakes’ (and cup&cake/ travel&cake) around the city, but my favourite one is ‘by the sea’. The meals are not only healthy and super delicious, they also have an absolutely amazing way of serving the dishes. For example, take a look at their Instagram and you’ll understand @brunchandcake — TIP: Share! because most of the meals are really big.
TIP 2: Take the ‘super sandwich’, this one is served with a syringe of avocado!

FLAX AND KALE: Stylish and trendy place. The quality of the food is really good, everything is healthy and even 80% of their meals are plant based! They also have cold pressed juices, highly recommended!
TIP: they have a secret rooftop which is perfect when it’s sunny. (ask for it when you make a reservation)
TIP: Take a look at their Instagram @flaxandkale

CREPS ALBORN: Place to be, located in the trendy neighbourhood ‘El born’! Best bar in town, good vibes, food and cocktails. The bartenders are really nice, friendly and they have a good variety of music.
TIP: As you can see by their name, they serve crepes, you should try them!

PACO MERALGO: When my mom came to visit me, she wanted to take me to her favourite restaurant, which is Paco Meralgo. They serve typical Spanish tapas which you can choose either from the bar or the menu.
TIP: Make a reservation and ask for the left side of the restaurant.

BUNQUERS DEL CARMEL: Amazing 360 view over the city. This used to be the bunkers but now it’s a place to hang out and chill with the best view you’ll get over Barcelona. It’s open 24/7 and you don’t have to pay which is really nice of course. You can go in the evening to see all the lights, but its also breath-taking in daylight. (yes I went three times (; )
TIP: wear sneakers, because its a bit of a hike to get on the top.

PLAYA GARRAF: One of my first shoots in Barcelona was at this beautiful beach in Garraf, just outside of the city. This beach is really cute and it looks like you’re in Greece with the little white houses. Its a perfect escape from the city madness.

Dinner at Makamaka

MAKA MAKA BEACH BURGER CAFE: This burger café located next to Barceloneta beach is owned by Dutch guys. The name ‘makamaka’ means ‘intimate friend’ in Hawaiian. I went to have diner here and chose the ‘Greenzilla’ vegan burger, which was really good. They use funny names for the burgers such as ‘topless’ (plain burger) or ‘hot mama’ (spicy one). They are well known for their burgers, however they also serve salads and have a wide variety of cocktails. During the winterdays the terrace is heated, so you are able to sit outside every time of the year!
TIP: You can stick a wooden knife or fork with your name on it on the wall!

LOVE,

Demi – @demijonk
