Tell us about your career as a model. How did you get started?
Becoming a model has been something I always wanted, but I didn’t know if I was the right fit for the modeling world. Agents scouted me several times when I was 14, but nothing really happened. When I was 16, my best friend took me to a modeling contest called Elite Model Look, and I made it to one of the final rounds.
When did you first sign with an agency and what was that like?
After the Elite Model Look contest, my now mother agency Linda Models scouted me online. I came by the agency and before I knew I signed a contract. I was very excited and curious about what the modeling world had to offer me.
What is one of your favorite photographs from your career so far? Who shot it?
Maxime Cardol. It was my first test shoot, I didn’t have much experience back then, but the way she made the pictures were so beautiful. My first pictures were great because of her.
What is your best model experience ever?
My first trip to Milan this summer. I went there because of Fashion Week. The past weeks there were incredibly busy, but I really liked it there. It was my first two times to walk in a fashion show.
What are the main challenges in modeling today?
I think Social Media. Nowadays it is so important how you present yourself on the internet. Instagram just became way more serious for models because future clients could look me up and already decide if I’m right or wrong for the job. So it’s also important to keep it up-to-date
What do you enjoy most of your profession?
Working together with a team and seeing the results, which are beautiful. Those people I get to work with are so talented. And of course the feeling you get when you walk the runway. Such a kick!
How would you describe a model life?
It’s not as glamorous as you’d expect it to be. There’s a lot of traveling, Very long days, And you’ve got to accept rejection. This doesn’t affect me, and it doesn’t make my job less fun. I love working hard for something I really want. All the beautiful results and working with all these crazy talented people. Staying positive is the key.
Do you think models are able to find long lasting friendships within the industry today?
Sure. If you have good friends who support you in what you do and love you no matter what. Nowadays having contact with friends is so easy because we all have internet and know how to reach one and another.
What is your big model dream?
I don’t really have one specific dream. Working in New York or Paris would be awesome. Getting to do a great campaign or walking a show there.
What is your favorite thing to do when not working?
I love cooking and spending my time all day in the kitchen, I love working out and of course spending time with my friends and family.
Take us through a typical day in the life of Willemijn.
I’m a real morning person, so I get up early. After waking up I’ll make myself a beautiful breakfast, I never skip breakfast. If I’m free, you’ll probably catch me watching Netflix. I usually go to the gym. I cook for the family, and after dinner, I’ll probably go to see my friends and have a drink.
How do you keep your body in good shape?
I’m lucky with the way my body is built. I love eating healthy because I love feeling healthy and energetic. I go to the gym three or four times a week. My workout routine is mostly about creating more muscle instead of losing fat. That’s how I stay in shape.
What’s your favorite place in the world?
Give us 5 fun facts people might not know about you yet.
I don’t like cheese, I like cleaning, I have a hummus addiction, I’m obsessed with cats and I sleep in the weirdest and hideous clothes from when I was a child, I don’t know why myself.
