It’s not often that one stumbles upon a restaurant that not only serves delicious food, but also has an ethos that makes you feel right at home. Plant is a vegan restaurant on the corner of loop and Buiten in Cape Town’s city center – so it is perfectly located for meals in between castings.
Everything about this restaurant makes you feel grounded, from the earthy décor to the food. Everything is vegan – even the cakes! So if you do decide to have a sneaky cupcake before you pop into the agency, at least you know that it’s as healthy as a cupcake can be.
I had a protein salad, which really was full of protein and kept me going the entire day. Lured into the idea of nourishing my body, I decided to boost my vitamin intake for the day with a yellow juice (although, it really was more orange than yellow). I am quite strict when it comes to the grading of deliciousness of restaurant food, but I can quite confidently say that the food is delicious! Definitely on my ‘Top Five Restaurants in Cape Town’ list.
The menu offers all day breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, salads, soups, a bar menu, dinner menu, dessert menu as well as fresh juices and smoothies… There really is something for everyone – even those who are gluten intolerant, as gluten free alternatives are also offered. The menu is extensive and it was quite an eye opener as to how many vegan meals there are – and how tempting the majority of them are too.
I highly recommend that anyone living in Cape Town for any length of time try this restaurant, even if just for a bit of education about vegan food. To end off I will leave you with a quote from the Plant website explaining why they are a vegan restaurant:
“By denouncing animal products we make a commitment to align our lives with the principle of non-exploitation and non-violence.”
I hope that your experience of Plant is as happy a one as mine!
