How did you become a professional soccer player?
I started playing football at the age of 5 and have been a goalkeeper since I was 9. I took a break after the 2006 world cup qualifying campaign to try modelling full time which I did for most of early 20’s. I am now full swing into my football again and loving it.
What does your career do for you?
Both football and Modelling have allowed me to travel to wonderful places and meet a heap of great people along the way.
What is your most memorable soccer moment?
Making my debut for the national team against South Africa and playing in the Club World Cup in Japan in 2012.
You’ve also been modeling; how did you start with modeling?
When I was 19 I was advised to try modelling by a couple of people so I went in to an agency in Auckland started from there.
What’s your most memorable shoot?
Esprit campaign on the amalfi coast in Italy was amazing. 4 days in the sunshine in a truly beautiful region of the world.
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
I think Modellist-ID would be able to provide a platform with which models can have a common place to meet others in foreign cities. Being from the other side of the world and modelling in Europe can be quite daunting at first, so it is nice to know that in Modellist-ID we have a start point to foster a home away from home, as it were.
Who do you admire and would you like to meet?
I admire anyone who is willing to go against societal conventions to pursue what they love.
What’s your favorite book/film/music?
At the moment my favourite film is Seven Psycopaths. I love Bon Iver and the National for music. My favourite book would have to be ‘a short history of nearly everything’ by Bill Bryson I think.
What do you do to stay in shape?
At the moment im training a lot as it is pre-season, I run once a week with the dogs, football training twice with my club and twice with a goalkeeper coach and I also attend the gym twice a week.
What cosmetic products do you use?
I’m very low maintenance. I use Nivea facial moisturiser which has sunscreen as New Zealand has very harsh sunlight. I have enough freckles without adding to them.
What are your favorite hang out spots in the city you live in (current location)?
I love the breakfast at Dizengoff in Ponsonby, other than that I’m a bit of a homebody.
What is your favorite city and where do you like to hang out there?
My Favourite city is a toughy. I could live in New York for a while and Paris for a lifetime. Ironically my favourite hang out spot in New York was the Small Turf in NOLITA. In Paris, I could walk anywhere and be happy but I have a soft spot for the Monmarte area.
What are your plans and dreams for the future?
I would love to live in Europe again some day. I also dream of helping my country to their third world cup appearance and in doing so bring about some positive results during the tournament.
