How did you start modeling?
I got scouted when I was 15 years old. I was at a classmate’s house for a school project, and his mom gave me a letter. It turned out she was a model scout and she was interested in me. Her agency is still my mother agency now.
What does your career do for you?
It opened a complete new world for me, a world you never really see and experience. It made me come across a lot of weird, silly and interesting things. It made me more flexible, and enjoying the moments I have right now because it could change any second.
What’s your most memorable shoot?
That must be Nivea in London. I was still in high school at that time, so couldn’t skip too many days of school. The shooting was planned on Wednesday so I would fly in the night before. Only my flight got cancelled because of bad weather conditions. Luckily to the time difference London was still working and so could book me a flight for the next morning.
So on Wednesday I got picked up by the driver, drove to the job and walked in right on time.
The next morning at 4AM a taxi was at frond to pick me up and bring me to the train, which took me to the airport. At 10 AM I was back in class to give a presentation… That was the first time I really experienced the crazy travelling of the job.
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
It gives us a place where we can read about stuff that can help us with our job, like information on food, work-out tips or beauty products. But it also gives us the opportunity to ask the questions about modeling you would normally never ask to your bookers. Little things you would ask an experienced model. So it’s a good thing for new and full-time models.
Who do you admire and would you like to meet?
Of course Dutch pride Doutzen Kroes is high on my list. I think she is an inspiring and smart woman who really goes for what she want, and by hard work she gets it. This gives me a lot of motivation.
But also Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone. They are beautiful women, who are not afraid to show there goofiness and how awkward they really are, which I love!
What’s your favorite book/film/music?
Currently reading the Divergent Trilogy. Loved the movie, love the books even more.
Addicted to the cd of Bastille!! play it 24/7
What’s your beauty regime?
I have always had a nice skin, not a lot of problems so I am really lucky about that. When I do get some pimples, I use AnneMarie Börlind. It’s natural beauty products and they have so many different products, for every skin type there is something. Even for men!
And what is the one beauty product you can’t live without?
My Purol lip balm. It’s a Dutch brand, made out of vaseline for dry and damaged skin. I use it every night on my lips right before going to sleep. Without it I cannot fall asleep, I will get irritated by my dry lips all night.
What are your favorite hang out spots in the city you live in?
I love Arnold’s Coffee, and every model that has been here knows it. You can always find some models there during high season. It’s the only place in Milan that looks a bit like Starbucks. You can by large cappuccinos or caffè latte, and use the wireless and power plugs. So when I have extra time or a low battery, I go there to charge.
What is your favorite city and where do you like to hang out there?
My favorite city is Barcelona. You have the nice beach, the nice city, culture, nice bars, nice food, and for just 3 euro you have a return ticket to another place there around the coast like Sitges.
Also there are a lot of nice clubs on the beach! So after a nice party you could hang out at the water and just chill for a bit!
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
First of all it’s nothing like any of the tv programmes you’ve seen.
Second of all, stay true to yourself and what you want or not, but also be open-minded for the advice of the right people. Always second guess it though 😉 people talk a lot of bullshit in this business, just to make money on you. So be smart and filter the crap.
What are your plans for the future?
I don’t know yet. I am about to finish my studies and becoming a nutrition advisor, but I do not feel like quitting modeling any time soon. I want to try to get as much out of it as possible, and by the time I do, I will know what to do with the rest of my life 🙂
