How did you start modelling?
‘A friend of my parents was looking for a model for his clothes company and asked me if I was interested. The people at the shoot advised me to go see an agency.‘
What does your career do for you?
‘I was only sixteen when I went to live in Milan and London, I learned so much that year and I met a lot of interesting people.’
What’s your most memorable shoot?
‘That was with Vogue Sposa in Milan. My call time was around lunchtime, and they just started lunch. It was a real Italian lunch made by grandma, we all set around a big table. I could have listened to them talking Italian for hours. Then it was time to shoot, and because we talked during lunch we were all very relaxed, had a lot of fun and the photo’s turned out great.’
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
‘I know what it feels like to go to a city where you don’t know anybody and you don’t know what places to go to. With Modellist-id you can easily meet your colleagues.’
Who do you admire and would you like to meet?
‘I admire my dad, because he always taught me and my brothers and sisters that you have to work hard but you can be anybody you want to be. My mom because she made me who I am today, my grandmother because she’s 88, but still knows everything that’s going on in the world and I would like to meet Ryan Gosling, just because he’s handsome.’
What’s your favorite book/film/music?
‘Book: Extremely loud and incredibly close. You can read what the death of his father on September 11th did to a little boy. Film: We need to talk about Kevin, brilliant actors and such a heavy story. Intouchables, and just like every other girl: The Notebook. Music: I love all different kinds of music, but for example Counting Crows, Nickelback and Damian Rise, and I secretly have a passion for country music: Dixie Chicks, Band Perry and Miranda Lambert. The past few weeks I’ve been listening to Miss Montreal’s new album pretty much non stop.’
What’s your beauty regime?
‘I always clean my face before I go to bed. During the night I use hand cream and Crème Bioforce by A. Vogel for my lips. And during the day Clarins day cream. When the sun is shining I use sun cream, because I burn really fast. Most of the time I use Mac make-up products.‘
What are your favourite hang out spots in the city you live in?
‘In Amsterdam, I love to go to the bars in the Pijp or Bar Italia and meet up with friends. I have a good time anywhere if I can dance. For relaxing Vondelpark, Westerpark, Hanneke’s Boom and taking a boat through the canals. During the summer I visit lots of festivals.’
What is your favourite city and where do you like to hang out there?
‘My favorite city in the world is Amsterdam. I also love New York because of the vibe and the shopping. I go to Central Park for relaxing and I love NY clubs. My favorite restaurant is Catch in Meatpacking and for coffee Café Café in Soho.’
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
‘You should go to an agency and ask for their opinion. They will tell you if you’re fit to be a model. Just try!’
What are your future plans?
‘I have to study for 3 more years, I’m not sure what I want to do after I have graduated.’
