INTERVIEW – FASHION MODEL DIENKE ROZENDOM
Profession: Fashion Model
De Boekers – Amsterdam
City Models – Paris
Current location: Amsterdam
How did you start modeling?
“I started modeling when I was 14 years old. I was scouted by someone from Skin Models in Amsterdam who saw me on Hyves (Dutch Facebook). But because I lived in the east of Holland and I was so young, I decided to stop after a few months. When I was 20 years old and lived in Amsterdam, I started again.”
What does your career do for you?
“Meeting a lot of nice people and I got a lot of experience from the different jobs. I think you learn to become very responsible and independent.”
What’s your most memorable shoot?
“A test shoot with a great Dutch photographer. First I was a bit scared, because there was no styling or make up artist, so I didn’t know what to expect. But the photos I got from that shoot, totally changed my book. Afterwards, a lot of agencies abroad were interested in me. That photographer really knew how he could get the best out of me.”
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
” I think it’s a wonderful way of sharing experiences and helping the very young and inexperienced models to find their way in the modeling world. Sometimes it can be very hard to stay true to yourself and resist temptations like drugs and alcohol. Furthermore, it’s so nice and fun to read all the stories about the different cities and places from other models!”
Who do you admire and would you like to meet?
“I admire Crystall Renn (American model) who first got an eating disorder, but decided to not destroy her body anymore and started a career as a plus size model. She is now one of the most successful plus size models in the world and worked with great photographers like Steven Meisel.”
What’s your favorite book/film/music?
“My favorite book is Tirza (Arnon Grunberg), my favorite film is Black Swan and at the time I’m listening a lot to Fink and Birdy. But in general, I love Coldplay.”
What’s your beauty regime?
“I don’t use a lot of make up and I think it’s more important to take good care of your skin. I always use ‘skin drink’ from Lush. I have a very dry skin, and if I come home after a shoot I wash my face very carefully and I apply this moisturizer. I also like the make-up products by MAC a lot.”
What are your favourite hang out spots in the city you live in?
“I have a lot of favourite spots in Amsterdam. I live at Muntplein and close to Waterlooplein. But my favourite spot is the Jordaan. You have a lot of cosy little pubs where you can enjoy a drink. I also love the Westergasterrein in the summer!”
What is your favourite city and where do you like to hang out there?
“My favourite city is definitely New York. I went there for a short holiday with my boyfriend last summer. Brooklyn is very lovely, and you can see a lot of beautiful and artistic people out there. I also love Central Park, because of the silence in the middle of the big city.”
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
“Don’t give up everything for your modeling work. It’s only work and beside that you have a lot of other important things like your family and friends. And if you have the opportunity to do a study, do it! You never know when this modeling work stops for you, and then you always have a good education to take up. I almost have my degree in psychology and it feels so good to have a back up plan!”
What are your future plans?
“I will be going to Paris for half a year to do modeling work and afterwards I will take up my study in Amsterdam. I hope that I can do some modeling work next to my study. If I am done with school, I would like to do modeling work for a couple of years to see how it turns out.”
