International Collaborations – The Yayoi Kusama & Louis Vuitton Collection
Great news, Louis Vuitton offer us more super charged synergy with Japanese Avante Garde artist, Yayoi Kusama. Initially supporting her exhibition at Tate Modern in London earlier this year. With Marc Jacobs steering the creative direction, a slick Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama capsule collection has already hit New York, and makes its way to London this month. Infused with the cheerful charm of Yayoi Kusama’s “obsessive vision of endless dots”.

Notoriously her style is “obsessive, repetitive and rhythmic.” Through her use of dots the artist portrays her dazzling perception of infinity. Catapulting her work into the public eye, painting polka dots onto naked hippies at “body festivals” during the 1960’s. Now perfect, pristine polka dots take on the form of bags, clothing, scarfs, jewelry, sunglasses and luggage tags to be worn again by us. Unusually uplifting, there are many timeless, playful and wearable pieces.

“The dot represents something that has no points, no hard edges and is infinite”, as described by Marc Jacobs in a short film produced for Louis Vuitton about the artist. Despite ongoing personal struggles, now 83 years old, Yayoi Kusama has achieved amazing success including “a record sale for a living female artist” in 2008 when “Christies New York sold a work for a $5.1 million.”
Salute the collection with one statement piece, and you might be tempted to work it with jeans en-route to shoots. No option but to keep your face clean and the leave colour to the clothes. You can always add a spritz of Dot, the aptly named fragrance from Marc Jacobs to keep you and your mood fresh all day.

On your way out the studio, call for reinforcements from your red lipstick army. Balance the boldness with a strong lip. Keep it neat and chic, the perfect chance to pay tribute to primary shades. I'm recommending Christian Dior, -Diorific 014, Mac - Ruby Woo, Laura Mercier - Truly Red, Illamasqua - Sangers, YSL - Rouge Pur Couture 01 or your all time favorite red and a few coats of Estee Lauders Sumptuous Lifting Mascara.

Meanwhile, my make up box is crying out for a polka dot Louis Vuitton luggage tag to kick start the early morning shoots. Browse the range at Selfridges, Concept Store, London from 24th August 2012 or on your worldwide adventures!
