Bees and beauty care. It’s perhaps not the most obvious combination, but thanks to Manuka Doctor it is. The brand uses purified bee venom to create a rejuvenating face mask. Kate Middleton, Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow are already fan. Isn’t that exciting? Coincidentally, my skin can always use a boost, so let’s find out what these miracle bees can do for me.
Before you read further, this is an important note for all animal lovers, beekeepers or vegetarians (like me): no bees are harmed in the sourcing of the raw ingredients.
Manuka Doctor has a product range of four different series. I am using the purple line called ApiNourish, meant to protect and moisturize the skin. First I take a shower and clean my face, after that I apply the mask on my face and neck. The smell is a little sweet and flowery thanks to the honey from New Zealand. Unlike other face masks that get really hard after fifteen minutes (and turn you into a shrunken old granny if you get the giggle) this one remains smooth even after half an hour.
The package promises that the cream helps to reduce the visibility of wrinkles. Since I have no wrinkles yet – except for my laugh lines – I can only say: ask me again in twenty years or so. Much more interesting for me is the fact that the cream assists with the renewal of damaged skin cells. Not a word too much, I must say: right after the treatment, my skin feels silky soft for the rest of the day. So forget about Botox, bee therapy is the brand new and best kept beauty secret!
