TRIED & TESTED – MODEL ANNEKE WEERTS ABOUT INSTITUT ESTHEDERM SUNCARE PRODUCTS

Hiding in the dark

Modellist-ID asked me to get into the sun to test some interesting sun care products by Institut Esthederm. Well, to be honest, I try to hide from the sun as much as possible. You’ll find me hiding in the dark like a real dementor (Harry Potter) most of the time, because getting sunburn; skin tone changes or ‘stripes’ are things that can ruin your career as a model. According to photographers, retouching a sunburned skin is one of the hardest things to do. They’ll book your just-as-beautiful and just-as-nice model-colleague without a sunburned skin because this will save them a lot of time in post-production.

Happiness in the sun

Hiding from the sun is not always preferable. The sun helps to strengthen the immune system, it stimulates the production of vitamin D (which is important for strong bones) and last but not least the sun will make you feel happy. Photographers might want to work in direct sunlight too, so there is no way I’ll be able to permanently hide from the sun.

Sensitive skin

As a model suffering from some serious food-allergies, I have a body package that comes with a rather sensitive skin that might become reddish and itchy when it gets in touch with products that aren’t dermatologically tested well. I hope the sun care products by Institut Esthederm turn out to be a good solution for me and get me into the healing sunlight more than ever before while protecting my skin from becoming red, itchy or flaky!

Sun care products

First I had to fill out a form about my skin type, sensitivity and sun-exposure. A few weeks later I received three sun care products from Institut Esthederm.

The big bottle (blue) contains a tan enhancing lotion, which calms, moisturizes and prolongs the tan for the body. It has to be applied generously on the body after each exposure. It does not contain sunscreen and does not protect against sunburn.

The midsized bottle (orange) contains a sunscreen and is called ‘adaptasun sensitive skin tanning body lotion’. It shows a three-star symbol for usage in extreme sun (high altitude, tropics, boating, long exposure periods). It has to be applied on the body, 20 minutes before exposure and reapplied every two hours and after swimming.

The small bottle (dark orange) contains a sunscreen and is called ‘adaptasun sensitive skin tanning face cream’. It shows a three-star symbol for usage in extreme sun (high altitude, tropics, boating, long exposure periods). It has to be applied on the face, neck and décolleté area, 20 minutes before exposure and reapplied every two hours and after swimming.

First I apply the sunscreen (adaptasun sensitive skin tanning body lotion) on my legs and the rest of my body. The white-colored sunscreen feels very soft and creamy. It smells nice, not soap-like or over-perfumed, but very fresh. It turns into an invisible protection layer that hydrates the skin too.

Second I put the sunscreen from the small bottle (adaptasun sensitive skin tanning face cream) on my face, neck and décolleté. It feels, smells and hydrates just as nice as the sunscreen for the body from the medium-sized bottle. It soon turns into an invisible protection layer too.

I wait for another 20 minutes and get myself into the sun. I’m ready for some serious sunbathing and close my eyes.

After a few hours clouds cover up the sun. I pick up the bottles sunscreen around me and go inside again. My eyes need to get used to the dark. At first I’m shocked, because when I rub over my skin it starts to look kind of flaky. It turns out to be the sunscreen that is coming off, that’s why it’s so important to reapply it every two hours or after swimming. I put on the tan enhancing lotion from the big blue bottle. It hydrates the skin perfectly and smells good too. I can’t find any trace of a sunburned skin. No pain or red areas, just a nice overall warm and happy feeling. I put on some more clothes and get myself ready for a good movie at the cinema tonight!
