BRITAIN CREATES 2012
It’s always fun to collaborate on shoots with creative, talented people. For the most exciting inspiration I look to artists working together from opposing genres, those results feel fresh and unpredictable.
An impressive collaboration launched straight out of London last month from “Britain Creates 2012: Fashion & Art Collusion”. The British Fashion Council and Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation partnered some of the most recognized visual artists and fashion designers from around the world, including a selection of the best from British fashion.

Amongst these unique partnerships were Matthew Williamson & Mat Collishaw, Nicholas Kirkwood & Simon Periton, Giles Deacon & Jeremy Deller and Jonathan Saunders & Jess Flood – Paddock. Nine knockout duos in total were commissioned to infuse their iconic styles into collaborative works of art. Each team revealed stunning pieces in diverse mediums, ranging from screen prints to sculpture and reflected a value from the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. Britain Creates is an ongoing celebration of the connection between the fashion and art worlds, so expect more creative genius to follow.
If that inspires you to try your own hand at something artistic, you could unlock another cool collaboration. It’s not too late to pick up one of the Limited Edition Thakoon for Nars, Nail Polishes. Inspired by the Thakoon S/S 2012 collection. Taking influences from the boldness of “an Indian spice market”, an original palette so perfectly pretty but strong and sassy. You’ll find pinks, purples oranges, yellows and blues unarguably hot and delivered in a reliable consistency still true to Nars. A good excuse to turn up the heat one last time, before boldly waving goodbye to our summer season.
