Let us introduce to you this talented lady Anita Jolles, who is a well known makeup artist and has worked in the business for a while. Read more about her and her ideas about the industry and her career.
1. When did you discover your love for makeup?
I am blessed with a mother who always had the best creams at home, I learned early how to wear beautiful make- up as a teenage girl. At the age of 11 my mother even introduced me to her beautician. Skin care was always very important in our house and to this day I cherish the habits my mother taught me. Even during my work I apply the things I learned as a little girl.
2. What is the most rewarding thing about working in this business?
Meeting many different people and delivering good work in collaboration with great teams is very rewarding for me. It’s great that people can see the results of your work and the icing on the cake; being sponsored by Bobbi Brown Cosmetics.
3. What are the most important items in your beauty case?
A set of good brushes, good creams, the ‘Extra Face Oil’ from Bobbi Brown, a beautiful mascara and vaseline are essential products in by beauty case.
4. Which item did you purchase recently?
I didn’t buy it myself, but got it from a model I worked with recently; a cream from QMS Medicosmetics. I’m impressed by the softness of the cream and the effect it has on my skin already after a week.
5. Do you have any 'go-to' signature looks that work every time?
The use of a nice fresh base and a light foundation works every time; to create a light foundation you can mix it with a day cream. A beautiful full mascara, a little pink on the cheeks, a burgundy lipstick to finish it up and you’re good to go!
6. Do you prefer creating wildly dramatic beauty looks, or classically pretty ones?
I’m a fan of different looks, as long as it fits into the concept of the assignment and the model looks beautiful.
7. What is the worst thing a woman can do in terms of makeup?
One of the things I unfortunately still see women do is applying foundation on dry skin or applying a wrong color. Another thing to be careful with is bright eye shadow; bright colors are amazing, but do not work for everyone, be careful with the tones you use. A handy thing to do is to go to a high-end warehouse and visit one of the makeup counters, first observe the staff and ask the employee that fits your style the best for makeup advice.
8. Which model would you still love to work with?
Too many! There are a lot of beautiful girls with amazing skin and great energy who I would love to work with.
9. What kind of makeup should be prohibited?
Animal unfriendly makeup should be banned it´s not realistic anymore in these times.
10. Which fashion houses do you think have the strongest beauty looks?
Pat McGrath is one of the greatest makeup artists and comes up with makeup styles for different fashion houses, she is an amazing talent and creates as well dramatic as beautiful natural looks. Fashion houses that work with her are guaranteed to success.
11. What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
I loved working for Dazed & Confused, it was a great experience and I had to pinch myself to realize that I was actually on the set.
