INTERVIEW – FASHION MODEL LUCIEN DAVE BUS

How did you start modeling?
"I was 22 years old and already a student. I was hanging out with some friends in Amsterdam, when suddenly a guy (male model) approached me about a job he did. He thought I also did that job, but that was impossible. He asked me if I was interested in making some extra money as a model; so he introduced me to my former agency de Boekers in Amsterdam. I had my first test shoot with Philip Riches and from they’re on my modelling career started."
What does your career do for you?
"It makes me escape reality and discover another part of myself. Especially, the profession I am also working in (pharmacy) is really uptight and stressful. It also brings me to places where I never would have come in my life as a pharmacist..."
What’s your most memorable shoot?
"That was a winter sport shoot in Austria for snowboard clothing. It was in the middle of the summer and the German photographer was awful. Also the place and hotel we were staying was so quiet and abandoned that it made me think of some scenes from the movie Hostel….very scary!"
What do you think MODELLIST-ID can do for the model community?
"This community makes it possible to be in contact with other models throughout the world. It is very difficult to keep in touch with colleagues and friends when you are travelling. MODELLIST-ID gives insight in what kind of experiences a model had in a city and where other models are staying or the agency they`re in."
Who do you admire and would you like to meet?
"Terry Richardson (fashion photographer), because of his graphic sexual approach in photography."
What’s your favorite film/music?
"I listen to techno/tech-house and deep house a lot. A couple of my friends are DJ and I love going to some of their performances. One of my favorite films is Trainspotting."
What’s your beauty regime?
"Even for a male model I have a very sensitive skin. Therefore I use two types of facial products; Shiseido and dr. Hauschka. I go to the gym 4 times a week, where I combine weight training with cardio. Once a week I go to the sauna for detoxification and of course to relax!"
What are your favourite hang out spots in the city you live in?
"I love going to Trouw in Amsterdam. This is an old newspaper factory where club nights are held. In Utrecht during the summer I like to spend my time in the different parks the city has. For a drink you can find me at de Neude."
What is your favourite city and where do you like to hang out there?
"I have been a couple of times in Athens and I love it there. I did my high school exams in ancient Greek writing; so therefore Greece has a special place in my heart, especially Athens. I like to go to the ancient archaeological sites the city has and of course Syntagma Square."
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
"Stay true to yourself and don’t forget who you are. Enjoy every part of it, because it’s over before you know it. Be thankful for every new experience. Don’t get pulled into fake people and bad habits."
What are your future plans?
"To combine my both professions (pharmacist and model) for several years from now. In this way I will able to visit places throughout the world and to develop myself as an adequate healthcare professional."
